Paul Smith
VP Sales & B. Planning-Research

Paul Smith joined Axela in April 2006 as VP Sales & B. Planning-Research.  Paul Smith has more than 25 years of experience in the life science instrumentation field. With a diverse background in sales, marketing and field operations, he brings extensive knowledge in commercializing new technologies through direct sales and collaborative partnerships with academic and pharmaceutical clients.

Mr. Smith joins Axela from the position of Vice- President, Sales Europe and North America for Ciphergen Biosystems Inc., a company focused on translating proteomics-based biomarker discoveries into high value research and clinical diagnostic assays.  Earlier achievements with Ciphergen included building a strong international team as Director, European Operations as well as founding their successful business in Canada.

In addition, Mr. Smith was recognized as a top sales performer with Beckman Coulter Inc., where he held a variety of bioresearch positions over 8 years, including market planning management for chromatography products.  A further 10 years was spent with a protein manufacturing firm as technical director and with a membrane company as marketing manager. Mr. Smith earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Wilfrid Laurier University and continued his education in Pharmacology at the University of Western Ontario.
